Majors' defence lawyer has claimed that the Marvel actor is innocent, stating that he was "probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows."
Over the weekend, American actor Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York City on charges of assault and harassment. Since his arrest the US Army has pulled advertisements featuring the Creed III star.
The arrest occurred following a domestic dispute in Manhattan on Saturday morning, according to the actor’s defence lawyer and police.
The New York Police Department reported that a woman in her 30s was taken to hospital in a stable condition having suffered minor injuries to her head and neck. Majors, who recently presented an Oscar alongside co-star Michael B Jordan, appeared in court for arraignment later on Saturday and was released without bail.
The 33-year-old was charged with a criminal complaint of striking the woman's face with his open hand, resulting in a laceration behind her ear, and from grabbing her hand and neck- bruising.
Majors' defence lawyer, Priya Chaudhry released a statement outlining that her client was innocent and that he was "probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows".

Chaudhry said that the episode occurred in a vehicle and that the driver who witnessed it would be the one to help exonerate the Creed actor. The defence lawyer also added that the woman had provided two written statements "recanting these allegations".
The incident has led to the US Army pulling new campaign advertisements featuring Majors.
While Mr Majors is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete," Laura DeFrancisco, a spokesperson for the Army Enterprise Marketing Office, said in a statement.
Majors became known from his role in 2019’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco and has since appeared in Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, released this year.
