Cry Monster Cry’s new documentary ‘When The Snows Falls I'll Be Gone’ will debut online tomorrow evening at 7pm on their website and social media channels.
The film tells the story of Irish brothers Richie & Jamie Martin's journey up the swiss alps, instruments on their backs, to play a concert in a cabin 2,200 metres above sea level.
The documentary was set for release on March 14 with a premiere at the IFI, but was cancelled, along with their headline sold out tour. The band has now decided that anything they can do to entertain those in self isolation can only be a positive move, and have decided to release it online tomorrow.
Brothers Richie and Jamie Martin have set up a Patreon account to support their own work with their sold out headline tour having been cancelled.
Jamie Martin talks about his perilous adventure: “I took a deep breath, wiped the sweat from my brow, and grasped the rusted metal bar that had been drilled into the rock face. Above me, my brother Richie had just disappeared over the top of the mountain. My heart was hammering. The mandolin in my backpack shifted slightly as I put all of my weight onto the makeshift ladder.” He continues: “Before us, the milky glacial lake glinted in the sunlight. We were on our way to The Gaulihütte, an alpine base built in 1895. Ten hours of hiking lay ahead of us. The crowd was waiting. The gig was sold out. We could not fail.”

In our most recent interview with them they talked about their new album: “We were just writing songs for ourselves, about what was going on in our lives over the space of the last two or three years,” Richie explained. “Then, before we knew it, we had this group of songs, all about the mundane things in life that happen when you grow older – the good and the bad, and the struggles of the world we live in.”
