The House Of The Devil and House Of 1000 Corpses will be screened on April 28
Horror fans in Belfast are set for a frighteningly good time thanks to the fiendish folks behind the fang-tastic new venture Crystal Lake Video Club. Kicking off on April 28 at the Deer’s Head in Belfast, each month they plan to dust down some classics from the crypt and leave aficionados of all things spooky screaming for gore – erm, sorry – more (*ahem*).
Born from an urge to indulge their inner Peter Vincents, the inaugural Crystal Lake Video Club event is set to ensure excitement levels are set to 666 with screenings of 2009’s diabolically good The House Of The Devil and 2003’s infamous House of 1000 Corpses.
Written and directed by Ti West, who is currently the king of modern day horror thanks to his Mia Goth-starring movies X, Pearl and the impending MaXXXine, The House Of The Devil is an '80s-set oddity that draws on slasher films and the Satanic Panic and features a then relatively unknown Greta Gerwig. A chilling and thrilling watch, it’s a cult classic with a deliciously creepy ending.
House Of 1000 Corpses closes the night. The directorial debut of White Zombie frontman Rob Zombie and inspired by '70s classics such as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, this grimy, gory, darkly comic offering has provoked a million screams and memes over the decades and boasts some truly iconic characters including the maniacal Captain Spaulding.
Hot Press recently donned our finest red lined black cloak and ventured out to meet Crystal Lake Video Club at [REDACTED] and they told us this:
“Our aim is to give a new meaning to the phrase The Sunday Horrors. Regardless of whether you’re a Letterboxd loving gore-hound or just simply curious about cult cinema, you’re welcome at our club. Each month, we’ll warm you up with a cult chiller before letting you sinking your fangs into a modern day favourite. It’ll be a scream, baby!

“We have plenty of plans for the future. We’re big fans of themes here at Crystal Lake Video Club so expect upcoming events to be based around everything from killer kids to final girls and if you’re into Hammer Horror, Amicus and future cult classics then you’ll particularly love what we have up our sleeves. We’re also taking a page from the late, great Larry Gogan’s book and will be accepting requests too, so if there’s something you’d love to see, then either get in touch via our socials or wait until the moon is full and summon us via blood incantation.”
Tickets for Crystal Lake Video Club’s first event are £10.90 and can be bought here.
Rumours that Crystal Lake Video Club will also accept your immortal soul as payment could not be confirmed at the time of writing….
