The film promises to "take the audience on an engaging exploration of a renowned and pioneering artist"
Let The Canary Sing, a documentary about the life of pop singer Cyndi Lauper, has been set to come out on Paramount+ on June 4.
The documentary will offer a deep dive into Lauper’s life through archival footage and interviews with the singer as well as friends such as Boy George and Patti LaBelle.
A companion album of the same name is set to be released on May 31, including some of her most iconic singles such as ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ and ‘True Colours’.

According to a release from the film’s director, Emmy Award-winning documentarian Alison Ellwood, Let the Canary Sing “chronicles Lauper’s meteoric ascent to stardom and her profound impact on generations through her music, ever-evolving punk style, unwavering feminism and tireless advocacy.”
“The documentary takes the audience on an engaging exploration of a renowned and pioneering artist who has left a remarkable legacy with her art.”
The title comes from a 40 years old lawsuit which followed the beginning of Lauper’s solo career after her time in Blue Angels. The judge who resolved the case said of Lauper, “Let the canary sing.”
