Cyndi Lauper and Jane Lynch are the modern-day Golden Girls.
What would a comedy show like Golden Girls look like in today's time? It seems like we're about to find out! Glee star Jane Lynch announced at the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday that she will star alongside Cyndi Lauper in a new series very similar to the legendary sitcom from the '80s.
The actress, who won the Guest Comedy award for her appearance in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel that night, said that the new comedy show will be "kind of a Golden Girls for today".
Initially stating that she doesn't know if she can talk about it, Lynch then revealed: "We're our age, I'm almost 60, she's 65, and we're looking for our next act without having had husbands or children. There will be two other folks in it who haven't been cast yet."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Netflix show is scripted by Steven Engel and Carol Leifer. The latter is well-known for her work on sitcoms like Seinfeld and The Ellen Show.

Back in July, Leifer posted a picture of Lauper, Lynch and herself on Facebook, writing: "IT'S OFFICIAL!! Headed out next week with a new half-hour comedy, starring Jane Lynch and Cyndi Lauper! A writer's dream to work with these two LEGENDS. Can't wait to see where we land..."
Cyndi Lauper is of course better-known for her music career. However, the '80s icon also starred in movies and TV shows such as Mad About You and Bones.
