A screening of The Wedding Present: Something Left Behind, a 2018 documentary focusing on indie rock band The Wedding Present’s early years, will be held on Saturday 25 May at the Irish Film Institute. Following the screening, a Q&A session will be held with David Gedge, the band’s frontman, and Andrew Jezard, the film’s director.

Later that evening, The Wedding Present will mark the 30^th anniversary of their album Bizzaro with a concert at Dublin’s Academy Green Room.

Formed from the ruins of the band Lost Pandas in 1985, the band has gone on to release nine studio albums and amass eighteen Top 40 singles in the UK.

The Wedding Present: Something Left Behind centres on the release and aftermath of the band’s debut album, 1987’s George Best. With live performances of the album’s songs from The Wedding Present’s anniversary tour and interviews featured throughout, the film brings to life the spirit of the 1980s, painting a vibrant picture of the UK indie scene at the time and offering insight into the breakup that spurred much of the album’s lyrical content.

“As long as that record still exists, when the needle hits the vinyl, I can still be fifteen, sixteen again,” BBC presenter Shaun Keaveny says in the doc.
