The director used the same phrase in an interview and on his YouTube channel.
David Lynch’s grave stone has been revealed at the Hollywood Forever cemetery, displaying the cryptic phrase: “Night Blooming Jasmine.”
Lynch died in Janurary at age 78. He was best known for directing projects like Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead and Twin Peaks. Reportedly, he was cremated and buried at Hollywood Forever, which is the final resting place of other Hollywood legends such as Judy Garland, Cecil B DeMille and Jayne Mansfield.
The simple black grave stone also displays his full name, David Keith Lynch, and his dates, 1946 - 2025.
He mentioned the phrase “Night Blooming Jasmine” in a 2016 interview with AnOther Magazine.
“You know, on a summer’s night, maybe more like a spring night, you could drive to certain places and if you smell that night-blooming jasmine, you can almost see Clark Gable or Gloria Swanson,” said Lynch. “The golden age of Hollywood is still living in some moods here, in the DNA of the city.”

He also mentioned the phrase on his YouTube channel in 2020.
“Now, the days are gonna start getting longer, and spring time is right around the corner,” he said. “When, at least in LA, that night blooming jasmine will once again fill the air with its sublime fragrance.”
Lynch’s family confirmed the directors death on Facebook in January, after his on-going battle with emphysema. According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, his immediate cause of death was cardiac arrest.
“There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us," his family wrote. "But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.'"
