David O. Russell, director of Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and I Heart Huckabees is set to direct the upcoming Linda Ronstadt biopic, starring Selena Gomez it has been confirmed.
The latest feature in the recent craze of music biopics, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice is currently in pre-production, with producers including James Keach, who produced the 2019 documentary on the genre bending singer.
The film’s producers include John Boylan, Ronstadt’s manager, and James Keach, known for his work on the Oscar-winning Johnny Cash biopic ‘Walk the Line’ and the 2019 documentary ‘Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice’.
The Wizards of Waverly Place star teased her involvement in the biopic earlier this week by posting a picture of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir Simple Dreams on her Instagram story.
Gomez, recently nominated for a Golden Globe after her starring role in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, shares Ronstadt’s Mexican descent and affinity for music, known for her chart-topping album Rare and hit singles ‘Love You Like a Love Song’ and ‘Lose You to Love Me’.

Born in 1946, Linda Rondstadt is a country, rock and latin music icon who has earned a string of awards including but not limited to: 11 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award.
The Blue Bayou star has released 24 studio albums and 15 compilation albums, while lending her voice to over 120 records. Ronstadt announced her retirement from her illustrious career in 2011, It was revealed shortly after that the singer had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. This was later determined to be progressive supranuclear palsy. The genre defying music legend was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2014.
