Disney has joined the ranks of Netflix and threatened a boycott of filming in the state of Georgia in lieu of recent anti-abortion laws.

The CEO of Disney, Bob Iger said in an interview with Reuters that it would be "very difficult" for Disney to continue working in Georgia if recent anti-abortion laws were implemented.

“I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully," he said.

He added that he couldn't see if it was "practical for us to continue to shoot there.”

Netflix was the first Hollywood company to threaten a boycott with the Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos stating: “We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law."

Georgia offers tax incentives to filming companies if they shoot scenes in the State. Previous block buster hits The Hunger Games and Disney's own Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther were filmed in the southern State.

Earlier this month, Georgia State Senator Brian Kemp passed a law that would make it illegal for abortion occur after a fetal heartbeat at six weeks. Although the bill passed, the law will not come into force until January.

The law is a direct contradiction of the historic 1973 Roe v. Wade case that ruled that the constitutional "right to privacy" protected a person's choice to have an abortion.

This was met with backlash across the country with singer Billie Eilish saying the law was "unbelievable".
