According to Steve Carell, Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson rang Carell before filming The Office spinoff.
While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Carell, who played Michael Scott in the international smash hit workplace comedy, revealed that Domhnall Gleeson had sought advice before filming his new role.
The star joked that the series would be all the original cast including Carell himself before Fallon said "Don't get people excited!".
Mr Carrell said that he knew Domhnall Gleeson, who he starred in The Patient with "is going to be one of the leads".
"He's an excellent actor" Carrell continued, saying "He actually called me and asked 'Should I do this?'."

Carell said that Gleeson asked if he enjoyed filming The US Office to which Carell replied with 'Of Course!".
Fallon commented that the phone call was "a class act".
The US Office was a remake of the original 2001 British show The Office created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
The original British Mockumentary grew to be a surprise international sleeper hit, with localised adaptations in 14 different regions.
The US version, which grew to be more popular than its UK counterpart, took place at a fictional paper company in Pennsylvania and saw Steve Carell helm the series as the show's lead for seven of its nine series.
Carell returned for the season nine series finale episode, reuniting with his former co-stars.
Peacock recently picked up to series a new comedy set in The Office universe. The untitled Greg Daniels and Michael Koman sitcom stars Gleeson and White Lotus star Sabrina Impacciatore. Production for the new show is set to begin in July.
