Films by Laura Quirke, Bob Gallagher and Charlie Joe Doherty will be screened on the night – plus live performances from the musicians involved in the projects.
Following Dream Baby Dream's premiere in Letterkenny earlier this year, the collaborative film and music project is coming to the Light House Cinema in Dublin this Thursday, May 11. The special event will include screenings of three short films – Laura Quirke's Devotion, Bob Gallagher's Hour of the Ox, and Charlie Joe Doherty's This Years Lull – as well as performances from some of the most groundbreaking forces in homegrown music, Katie Kim, Lemoncello, Rachael Lavelle and Elaine Howley, who all contributed to the various films.
Dream Baby Dream was curated and commissioned by Letterkenny's Regional Cultural Centre and Leagues O'Toole of Foggy Notions last year. They called on three filmmakers to collaborate with Irish-based musicians to create new short films, shot on 16mm.
In Devotion, Laura Quirke – one half of the renowned Irish duo Lemoncello – explores "the sacrifices we make to find joy and purpose in life," through candid recordings of dialogue between a mother and her children. The conversations are featured alongside sequences of a young woman "living two alternative lives between Dublin and rural Connemara; pondering the choice of motherhood, the creative pursuit and the ultimate questions of how, why and to whom we choose to devote our time."
The film was directed, edited and produced by Quirke, and features Carolyn Ingram and Lucy Duignan – as well as a score by fellow Lemoncello member Claire Kinsella and acclaimed Dublin singer and composer Rachael Lavelle.

Bob Gallagher's experimental documentary Hour of the Ox, meanwhile, is a companion piece to Katie Kim's 2022 album of the same name – her final release under her current pseudonym. It takes "an abstract look at the creative process behind the album, focusing in particular on Kim and Gallagher's mutual appreciation of cattle" – with "an array of bovine footage" included alongside interviews with Katie, an ox farmer, and a butcher.
Gallagher is a director, writer and cinematographer, who has previously created renowned music videos for Lankum, Gilla Band, Villagers, Pillow Queens, SOAK and Junior Brother, among others.
Filmmaker Charlie Joe Doherty's This Years Lull follows a young man across one Sunday in rural Donegal, centred around conversations with his best friend Paddy, "as they discuss antics from nights out, temptations of substance abuse and strained relationships at home." It also explores his difficult interactions with his father and brother, as well as his connection with a young girl named Doll – which, "coupled with a tender embrace from his mother, brings his Sunday and the film to its bleak conclusion."
This Years Lull was written by Doherty and The Murder Capital's Gabriel Paschal Blake, and features music by lauded solo artist, and member of The Altered Hours, Elaine Howley.
Dream Baby Dream kicks off at 7pm on Thursday, May 11, at the Light House Cinema, Dublin. Tickets are €25, and are available here.
