After an impressive acting performance from Dua Lipa during the filming of spy thriller Argylle, the 'New Rules' singer is reportedly ready to take on a big role in Hollywood blockbuster Barbie.

"Word spread around Hollywood about how good she was," a film insider told The Sun. Alongside being a Grammy-winning pop star, Dua Lipa "is now making waves in both music and movies."

“She has joined the cast of Barbie alongside big names including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell and Saoirse Ronan,” the source confirmed.

The 'Levitating' singer will allegedly be acting alongside a star studded cast which includes America Ferreira, Michael Cera, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa and Sex Education actress (and Robbie look-alike) Emma Mackey.

Barbie director Greta Gerwig wrote the film's screenplay alongside her parter Noah Baumbach, who penned and directed 2019's Marriage Story.

The film is rumoured to follow the story of a Barbie who was forced to leave Barbie Land after being considered not perfect enough. The flick is set to feature several versions of Barbie and Ken.

Margo Robbie, Issae Rae and Hari New will be playing the different variations of Barbie while the Kens will will be played by Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa.

In an interview with GQ magazine Simu Liu said that his agent had told him the Barbie script was the best he had ever read.

“He said, ‘If I could stake my career on any one script, it’s the Barbie script. I really think you should do it’,” the Shang-Chi star added.

Since the success of album Future Nostalgia in 2020, Lipa said on Twitter earlier this year that her next album is "50 per cent done."

The busy star is also currently on tour across Europe after performing the Irish leg of her tour at 3 Arena last month.

Barbie is being produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, Robbie's own production company LuckyChap Entertainment and Mattel Films.

Barbie is not Mattel's only toy themed film coming in the near future with "Polly Pocket," “American Girl,” “Barney,” “Hot Wheels,” “UNO,” and “Masters of the Universe,” movies said to be in development.
