Emerald Fennell to write new DC comics film
The film will be based on Zatanna.
It has been announced that Oscar-nominated director Emerald Fennell is due to write a new DC film based on Zatanna, who has yet to be given a film franchise.
Fennell is known for her work as a showrunner on Killing Eve, her acting roles in The Crown and The Danish Girl, and her Oscar-nominated directorial debut Promising Young Woman. The forthcoming film will be for Warner Bros.'s DC Films and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions.
The character, who was created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, has ties to the Justice League and is a powerful sorcerer. The character is yet to be cast.
Fennell has been receiving awards-season nods for Promising Young Woman from the likes of The Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Oscars. She and the film have received nominations for Best Director, Outstanding British Film, Original Screenplay and Leading Actress for Carey Mulligan.
