Oscar-winning actress Brenda Fricker makes her television return in the upcoming adaptation of Graham Norton's bestselling novel.
Irish actors Brenda Fricker, Conleth Hill, Charlene McKenna, Pauline McLynn, and Siobhán McSweeney will star in the upcoming ITV/Virgin Media Television adaptation of Graham Norton's novel Holding. Filming for the series has begun in West Cork.
Set in a fictional town in West Cork called Duneen, the novel follows Sergeant PJ Collins, played by Conleth Hill, as he solves a crime after the long-lost body of Tommy Burke is found.
Siobhán McSweeney of Derry Girls plays Burke's ex-fiancée Bríd Riordan while Charlene McKenna of Peaky Blinders plays Evelyn Ross, who "desperately loved" Burke.
"I cannot think of a better script in a better place with a better cast and crew," said McSweeney. "I'm in heaven being back in Cork."
The adaptation also stars Brenda Fricker, the Oscar-winning actress who is making her return to television. She will play Lizzie Meany, a character in Collins' life who has a host of secrets.
"I am ecstatic to be part of this wonderful production, in beautiful Skibbereen, and finally not to be playing a mother," said Fricker of the role. "Mrs. Meany is a bit of a dark horse. She has had a dreadful life but has retained her values, her friendships and most of all her sense of humor, keep a sharp eye on her."
