Universal revealed the subject of the film last December. Homer's epic poem follows the legendary Greek hero Odysseus on his decade-long journey to return home after the Trojan War. Written around the 8th century BCE, it is one of the oldest pieces of literature to still be widely read by modern audiences.
The Odyssey will mark Damon's third collaboration with Nolan, following Oppenheimer in 2023, and Interstellar in 2014.
Oppenheimer won seven Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards in 2024, including Nolan's first Academy wins for Best Directing and Best Picture.
Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey is set to release on July 17, 2026.
