Netflix releases first pictures of 'The Irishman'.
For his newest movie, legendary director Martin Scorsese returns to familiar territory. The Irishman is a saga about organised crime, with long-time collaborators Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci as well as Al Pacino in the starring roles.
De Niro plays World War II veteran Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who was accused of having connections to the mafia, specifically to mafioso Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci). With Al Pacino as Jimmy Hoffa, the film tells the story of the disappearance of the infamous Union President while offering a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organised crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.

For Scorsese, The Irishman is a return to old form as he is famous for crime movies such as Mean Streets (1973), Goodfellas (1990) and Casino (1995), all of which star Robert De Niro. In the latter two, Joe Pesci plays pivotal roles as well.
In June, the director released the pseudo-documentary Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese, which was described by Hot Press's Pat Carty as "one of the best rock'n'roll movies you'll ever see". Read the whole review here.
The Irishman will arrive on Netflix in autumn of this year.
