Derry Girls is returning for its third and final season.
Channel 4 have released the first trailer for Series 3 of their Troubles-era, coming-of-age comedy Derry Girls.
The previous two seasons showed a group of teenagers in 1990's Derry, navigating life, love and friendship against a backdrop of turbulence. Following Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland) and friends Clare (Nicola Coughlan), Michelle (Jamie-Lee O'Donnell) and Michelle’s English cousin, James (Dylan Llewellyn), the show is both poignant and bitingly witty.
Now, the lot has a new challenge: school. Though the Troubles are largely over, the group still has several hurdles to clear before adulthood, and knowing them, it won't be easy.
"At a time of great uncertainty about the future of the country thank God we have one unequivocally good piece of news to look forward to: the Derry Girls will be back to make our lives a bit brighter and more fun," said Ian Katz, Director of Programmes at Channel 4.
The upcoming season will see the return of Tommy Tiernan as Erin's father Gerry, Tara Lynne O’Neill as her mother Mary, Ian McElhinney as Grandpa Joe, Kathy Kiera Clarke as Aunt Sarah and Siobhan McSweeney as Sister Michael.

Written by Lisa McGee, the show mimes her experiences growing up in Derry — and is a candid, but ultimately hilarious account of life during that time. The series is a showcase of Northern Irish talent, and is set and made locally.
On the new season, McGee commented: “I love writing this show and I'm so thrilled to be able to continue the Derry Girls story, thank you Channel 4, Erin and the eejits live to fight another day!"
