Florence + the Machine’s recording of ‘Jenny of Oldstones,’ an original song from the final season of Game of Thrones, is out now. The song was sung by Podrick Payne within the hit HBO show’s latest episode, whilst the Florence + the Machine version was premiered during the end credits.
Florence + the Machine, helmed by frontwoman Florence Welch, will be the only artist featured in the show’s final season. This isn’t Florence + the Machine’s first brush with the epic fantasy series, though - their song ‘Seven Devils’ was featured in the second season’s trailer, which Game of Thrones showrunners and avid Florence fans David Benioff and D.B. Weiss call “the most powerful we’ve ever had.” Benioff and Weiss later approached Welch personally to see if she would record the new track.
“…The opportunity to hear her otherworldly voice on our show was always at the forefront of our minds,” say Benioff and Weiss. “We’re still pleasantly shocked that she agreed to sing ‘Jenny of Oldstones,’ and we’re in love with the result.”
'Jenny of Oldstones' was written by Emmy-award-winning composer Ramin Djawadi, Dan Weiss, David Benioff and George R.R. Martin, the author of the books upon which the TV series is based.
“When I first heard the song it sounded like a Celtic lullaby to me,” says Welch. “Celtic music has always been in my blood, so I felt like I could do something with it. The magic and ritual in ‘Game of Thrones,’ not to mention the costumes, have always appealed to me. I am honoured to be a part of the final season.”

Florence + the Machine are set to tour around the United States, the UK and Europe this coming summer following the release of their fourth album, 2018’s High as Hope. The upcoming tour will feature opening acts Christine & the Queens, Blood Orange, Perfume Genius and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats at certain performances and will see the band perform festivals like New York’s Governor’s Ball and London’s British Summetime Hyde Park. A full lineup of tour dates can be found here.
High as Hope has earned nominations for the Mercury Prize and BRIT Awards, and Welch herself earned a BRIT nomination for British Female Solo Artist just this year. Last summer, Welch made her authorial debut with a lyric and poetry book entitled Useless Magic.
‘Jenny of Oldstones’ marks the band’s first release since their single ‘Moderation’ in January. Watch the lyric video below.
