The 2003 classic which saw Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan co-star as mother and daughter will see the actresses return for Disney's sequel.
It’s official- a sequel to Disney’s classic Freaky Friday is currently in the works, with original stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis expected to return.
The film, which originally made its debut in 2003, sees Tess- played by Curtis- and her daughter Anna’s- played by Lohan- fractured relationship splinter even further when the two’s bodies are inexplicably switched, and they are forced to live out one another’s lives.
The Hollywood Reporter has detailed that the new film’s script is being tackled by writer Elyse Hollander.
With the film celebrating 20 years this year, Lohan opened up in an interview with The New York Times earlier this month, where she hinted at a follow-up to the iconic Disney classic.
"Jamie and I are both open to that, so we're leaving it in the hands that be," she told the publication.

Joined by the Halloween star, Curtis explained to The New York Times that as she went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another “Freaky Friday.”
"Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, 'It feels like there's a movie to be made,'" she added.
Freaky Friday was originally adapted in 1976 starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster as mother and daughter Ellen and Annabelle, based on the 1972 Mary Rodgers novel. A second adaptation followed in 1995 when Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffman, took on the mother and daughter roles respectively.
Having made $160 million worldwide at the box office, the film received largely positive reviews at the time of its release.

Rumours began swirling of a sequel back in February when Curtis posted a picture of herself and Lohan with the caption, "It's Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!".
Although a release date and plot details have not yet been confirmed, further details including casting are expected soon.
