“Ireland is home to world-class comedy and a booming television scene; we can’t wait to be part of that with our first Irish Original production," Dan Grabiner, head of Amazon Originals for UK & Northern Europe, commented.
Prime Video has just announced a new comedy series LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland, which will be hosted by renowned award-winning presenter Graham Norton.
The series is set to be the latest adaptation of the wildly successful Japanese series Documental, created by host Hitoshi Matsumoto for Amazon Prime Video.
10 comedians pay a participation fee to enter a room together for six hours. Any person who laughs is immediately removed from the room, and the last entertainer standing earns the money.
This comedy format has found wide global success, achieving Prime Video's most watched status in Italy and Germany. There have also been hugely successful local versions in Australia, India, France, Spain, Canada, The Netherlands, Colombia, Brazil, and Sweden.
LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland is Prime Video's first Irish original series, and will be filmed entirely within the nation, featuring ten of Ireland's most sought-after comedy stars.
Graham Norton (famous for his work in the acclaimed Graham Norton Show) will oversee the comedians– and some celebrity cameos– as they try to make each other laugh, without laughing themselves.

"I'm thrilled to be the host for the first Irish Original, LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland on Prime Video, and to be working on home ground for the first time in many, many years," said the Clondalkin-born host.
"I'm so proud of our comedy culture and it's wonderful to have a platform to showcase Irish talent to a global audience. I can't wait to see what our comedy masterminds do to get the laughter going."
LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland is set to be produced by Dublin-based Kite Entertainment and directed by Danny Tate, who is known for his work on LOL: Last One Laughing Canada, The Circle, and Big Brother Canada.
The six-part comedy series will film this spring in Dublin, set for worldwide release in 2024.
