The show follows on from the ending of Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman.
HBO Max has released a new trailer for The Penguin, a spinoff series focusing on Irish actor Colin Farrell’s titular character previously seen in DC’s The Batman.
Set immediately after the events of the 2022 blockbuster film, the eight-episode limited series charts the character Oswald Cobblepot, better known as The Penguin, and his rise to power in the Gotham underworld in the wake of mob boss Carmine Falcone’s death.
Farrell also serves as one of the executive producers on the new series alongside The Batman director Matt Reeves.
Joining Farrell are Cristin Milioti as Carmine Falcone’s daughter Sofia, Michael Zegen as Carmine’s son Alberto and Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, one of Gotham’s former top gangsters.
Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner, while Dylan Clark, Daniel Pipski and Bill Carraro are also executive producers. Mare of Easttown's Craig Zobel directed the first three episodes.

A sequel to The Batman titled The Batman: Part II was also delayed by a year and will now release in theatres on Oct. 2, 2026.
The Penguin is due to premiere in September on Sky Atlantic and Now TV in Ireland.
