The 10 part series follows neurodivergent Harriet Manners, who ends up being catapulted into the world of fashion.
Geek Girl, based on Holly Smale’s bestselling young adult books of the same name, is being adapted for television and brought to Netflix on 30 May, 2024.
The coming-of-age series tells the story of socially awkward and neurodivergent teen Harriet Manners, who, after being spotted to be a model, embarks on a “life-affirming journey of self-discovery” as she balances school life and high fashion.
The lead role is played by British actor Emily Carey, who’s previously featured in House of The Dragon and Wonder Woman.
Co-created by Jessica Ruston and Holly Smale, with further episodes written by Sameera Steward and Sarah Morgan, the screen adaptation will by directed by Declan O’Dwyer.

“This show is a fun, light-hearted look at those awkward but incredibly exciting teenage years, but we didn’t want to short change our audience so ensured that the fashion backdrop was credible,” says Dublin-born producer Zoë Rocha.
“We also had to create multiple runway shows, so I cast real models including Jade Parfitt, Marie Helvin, Emily Vivienne and Herieth Paul."
While the programme features world renowned fashion labels like Simone Rocha, Comme des Garcons, Bella Freud, Alexander McQueen, Dover Street Market and YSL, the creators also wanted to use their platform to showcase emerging talent in the fashion industry.
“Throughout the show, there are collections from the London College of Fashion, Chet Lo and Adam Frost right through to hand selected designers from this years graduating BA Fashion Course at Central Saint Martins," adds Rocha.
“The designer who created the first dress we see on a runway in this series was snapped up to go work for Lanvin in Paris straight after she graduated - clearly we have good taste!”
