The six-episode show, which launches July 16, will showcase one-on-one conversations between McCartney and Rubin about the Beatles, McCartney’s solo career, and more.
Hulu is airing a new documentary series from Paul McCartney and Rick Rubin called McCartney 3,2,1.
The series, directed by Zachary Heinzerling, is also executive produced by McCartney and Rubin.
The six-episode series will find McCartney going over the entirety of his career with Rubin, from his work with the Beatles and Wings to his five decades as a solo artist. The duo will also discuss the songwriting influences and personal relationships that have inspired McCartney’s work over the years.
In a statement, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment’s president Craig Erwich said: “Never before have fans had the opportunity to hear Paul McCartney share, in such expansive, celebratory detail, the experience of creating his life’s work — more than 50 years of culture-defining music. To be an observer as Paul and Rick Rubin deconstruct how some of the biggest hits in music history came to be is truly enlightening.”
McCartney released his most recent solo album, McCartney III, last December, with a Imagined version shared in April 2021.

McCartney will also reflect on his eight decades’ worth of songwriting for a forthcoming memoir The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present. Due out in November, the two-volume, 960-page book will examine over 150 songs from McCartney’s career in alphabetical order.
Rubin, meanwhile, has been occupied hosting his podcast, Broken Record, with Malcolm Gladwell. His recent production credits include the Strokes’ Grammy Award-winning 2020 album, The New Abnormal.
