Daði Freyr’s Eurovision performance is in doubt after the positive test.
A member of the Icelandic Eurovision team tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday (May 16), Daði Freyr announced on Twitter.
The ‘Think About Things’ singer and the rest of the team were also tested, but reported feeling healthy and were hopeful they could perform this coming Thursday. Eurovision’s executive supervisor Martin Osterdahl had intended for all 41 contestants to perform but competitors were previously asked to submit a taped performance if they couldn’t perform.
The Icelandic team member was the second positive case of Covid-19 at the Eurovision this year as a delegate from the Polish team also tested positive. Icelandic and Polish teams were staying in the same hotel along with the entries from Romania and Malta, all of whom were told to self-isolate.
The four teams missed the official opening of the contest on the Turquoise Carpet event in the Dutch capital, Rotterdam.
Ireland’s Eurovision hopeful Lesley Roy will compete in the contest tomorrow night with her song, 'Maps'. Roy was supposed to perform at last year’s competition before it was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The YouTube video for the song has hit 1 million views since it was uploaded in February. The live performance of the song was choreographed with a TV audience in mind as a capacity audience of only 3,500 will be in the Rotterdam Ahoy stadium.
The semi finals for the contest will take place on the 18th and 20th of May at 8pm with the final scheduled for the 22nd of May at 8pm.
