The Irish Film Institute has announced a special screening of the star-studded coming-of-age film, The Last of the High Kings, originally released in 1996.
Set in Howth in the '70s, the film stars a young Jared Leto as a fun-loving
teenager who, in his post-Leaving Cert summer of uncertainty, just wants to hang out with his friends, listen to Thin Lizzy and win the attention of local women. The Last of the High Kings, directed by David Keating, also features Gabriel Byrne and Catherine O'Hara as his parents, Christina Ricci as an American tourist, Colm Meaney as a sleazy politician and Stephen Rea as a taxi driver.
The IFI's screening, taking place this Monday, July 8, at 6.30pm, will be introduced by Ferdia Mac Anna, the author of the novel on which the film was based. Ferdia is also well known to Irish music fans as frontman of Rocky DeValera & the Gravediggers, and the Rhythm Kings.
