The Irish actor has been cast in a lead role in the brand-new series Dexter: Original Sin.
Irish actor Patrick Gibson has been cast as the lead in the new Dexter prequel, Dexter: Original Sin. The series is set to take place 15 years before the events of the original show.
Gibson, whose previous credits include Netflix's hit show Shadow and Bone, Tudors and The Portable Door, will play the role of a young Dexter Morgan.
Dexter: Original Sin (initially said to be titled Dexter: Originals) will also include some of the original show's primary characters. Christian Slater (Heathers, Mr Robot) will play Dexter's father, Harry Morgan, while Molly Brown (Senior Year) will play Dexter's sister, Debra.
Set in Miami, the original series ran for a total of eight seasons and followed the life of Dexter, who worked as a police forensic technician by day, while murdering perpetrators who escaped the justice system at night.
Dexter went on to win two Golden Globes, with the show amassing 6.1 million total weekly viewers across all platforms during its seventh season.
The upcoming prequel follows the protagonist's transition from a college student to avenging serial killer. Guided by his father's code, he learns who deserves to be killed while interning at the Miami Metro Police Department.
