Aidan Greene, Ireland’s foremost stand-up comedian, has launched a fundraiser in order to produce a short film, Stutterbug, that showcases authentic stuttering representation.
The project challenges stereotypes and promotes inclusivity, as it is written by a person who stammers, and features two actors who stammer, including acclaimed rapper, actor, and stuttering advocate Scroobius Pip.
Stutterbug now seeks the public’s support to move into full production, having reached the finals of the Virgin Media Discovers Film Fund and the Shore Scripts Short Film Fund.
The story of the film follows Aidan, a covert stutterer, through a hilariously chaotic day whereby he tries to hide his stutter, leading to misunderstandings and comedic disasters.
By exploring universal themes of shame and self-acceptance while centering the often-overlooked experiences of people who stutter, the viewer sees Aidan go on a journey combining humour, self-reflection, and the pursuit of acceptance.
Stutterbug aims to shift the perception of stuttering that has been misrepresented in the media for a long time, whereby it is often reduced to caricatures or stereotypes. This film marks a significant moment in representation, as it tells an authentic story, written and performed by individuals with lived experiences.

Scroobius Pip’s involvement in the project further elevates it, as his role brings added visibility to the film’s mission.
Stutterbug is seeking support to cover production costs, pay cast and crew fairly, and ensure the highest quality editing and sound.
Donors will enjoy exclusive perks, including behind the scenes access, a chance to appear as an extra, and producer credits.
