The Academy Awards will take place on Sunday 10 March 2024.
Our fingers are crossed for another great year at the Oscars for Irish talent. After last year's record-breaking amount of Irish nominations, hopes are high that we can keep the streak going.
A survey done by Variety, an American entertainment trade publication, shows that a number of Irish names may be very prominent at the next Academy Awards.
It's expected that Cillian Murphy will receive his first nomination for Best Actor for his performance in Oppenheimer.
The survey also showed Andrew Scott in the mix for potential nominations in the same category for his work in All of Us Strangers, which doesn't release until January 26, 2024. The film will also see Irish star Paul Mescal perform opposite Scott, making Mescal a shoo-in for a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor.
Another major contender for the Best Actor category is Barry Keoghan for his role in Saltburn, which is set to release on November 17.

There are also talks of Michael Fassbender being a contender for a Best Actor nomination for his new film The Killer. Streaming will be available for this film on Netflix on Friday, November 10.
As for Variety's analysis of the Best Actress category, it seems Fingernails' star Jessie Buckley, Flora and Son's Eve Hewson, and Foe's Saoirse Ronan are all in the running for a nomination.
Fingernails is set to release for streaming on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 3. Flora and Son is in cinemas now and streams on Apple TV+ from Friday, September 29. Foe - also starring Paul Mescal - is due for release on Friday, October 20.
Irish production company Element Pictures are set to pick up multiple nominations in January for their film, Poor Things, starring Emma Stone. The nominations expected for the film include Best Picture, Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos, and Best Actress for Emma Stone, with Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan also in contention for a nomination.
Recent Netflix documentary The Deepest Breath, directed by Irish filmmaker Laura McGann and with Irish company Motive Films among the producers, is set to be in consideration for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar nomination alongside Disney+'s Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, with David Letterman.
Official Oscar nominations will be released on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. With such a big year for Irish cinema, there is no doubt we will see some of our own within the nominations.
