"I'm just shocked I've done something that upset people more than 'Cats'."
Twitter was up in arms last week after a user spotted James Corden and Justin Bieber filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke... where Corden wasn't actually driving.
Producer Ben Winston replied to the tweet to assure everyone that Corden does drive the car 95 percent of the time and this was just to ensure safety during a stunt. Corden finally addressed the controversy himself on The Late Late Show last night.
"I know this looks bad," he said. "But I just want to say right now, that I always drive the car, unless we're doin something where we think it might not be safe. Like a dance routine, or a costume change, or if I'm drunk."
Corden was stunned by the media frenzy about the "scandal," which The Guardian called "the worst lie since Santa."
"I'm just shocked I've done something that upset people more than Cats," he said.
He assured the audience that the danger is very real most times, even if there are a few other white lies -- turns out he doesn't actually need a celebrity lift to work.

"95 percent of the time, I really am endangering the lives of the world's biggest pop stars," he said.
And as an English man in Los Angeles, maybe he does deserve a bit of a break.
"I want credit for it. Because I was raised on a completely different side of the road," he said.
