“I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise for everything I’ve ever done,” Springer says in a clip. “I have ruined the culture”.
Netflix have unveiled the first trailer for an enticing two-part documentary series pulling back the curtain on the controversial daytime talk show hosted by Jerry Springer.
Promising an intimate look at the behind-the-scenes scandals and melodrama behind one of the biggest TV institutions of the ‘90s, Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action is coming to Netflix on January 7, 2025.
Affectionately titled “the king of trash TV”, more or less, Springer launched his show in 1991 and quickly became one of the biggest phenomena of the decade, launching the host headlong into international stardom as the first daytime talk show presenter to edge out Oprah Winfrey in the ratings. Springer was an active presenter of YV, radio and podcast shows until his retirement in 2022.

But behind the Hollywood facade lay darker truths. With archival clips and first-hand accounts from producers and ex-guests, a murkier picture begins to form, shedding light on the destruction it caused, raising renewed questions about who was responsible and how much the envelope should be pushed in the name of entertainment.
The trailer begins with a confessional from Springer, who died in April last year: “I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise for everything I’ve ever done. I have ruined the culture”.
