The film, starring Irish actress Jessie Buckley and Olivia Colman, revolves around a mystery in the English seaside town of Littlehampton in the 1920s.
Wicked Little Letters, the newest film from director Thea Sharrock (Me Before You, The One and Only Ivan) and script writer Jonny Sweet, has been given an Irish release date in February 2024. A first look image at the film was also released.
It stars the Academy Award and BAFTA winner Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter, The Favourite, The Crown) alongside Irish actress Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter, Chernobyl, Wild Rose), the two acclaimed actresses helming a stacked supporting cast including Timothy Spall, Hugh Skinner, and Anjana Vasan. Similarly, the film will be produced by Blueprint Pictures, who produced several Academy Award-winning films including The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) and Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri (2017).
Based on a true story, Wicked Little Letters explores small-town scandal and accusation. According to the synopsis, the fiery Rose Gooding (Buckley) and the pious Edith Swan (Colman) are little more than neighbors in the English seaside town of Littlehampton in the 1920s. That is, until a series of scandalous letters are sent around to members of the town, and everyone blames Rose. Police officer Gladys Moss (Vasan) believes something is amiss, however, and sets out to find the real culprit alongside a group of resourceful women.
