There is a strongly musical line-up for the Late Late Show this week, with Jessie Buckley and the stars of Derry Girls among those ready to be quizzed by Ryan Tubridy...
Jessie Buckley is among the stars lined up to appear on the Late Late Show this week. The Kerry actress – who grew up in Killarney – is the star of the upcoming Wild Rose movie, and she will talk about her experience making what is a genuinely superb film about a musician chasing stardom as a country singer. She will also discuss how she herself decided to head off to London – in pursuit of stardom! – at the tender age of 17. Jessie Buckley will also perform one of the songs from the movie. Mark our words: that will be well worth catching. Jessie Buckley is hugely talented and has a great screen presence.
Also on the show this week are the stars of Derry Girls – the Channel 4 drama, the first series of which took both Ireland and the UK by storm. Key members of the young cast – Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn – will all be there, which might lead to the odd squabble, if the programme itself is anything to go by! Members of the cast Siobhán MacSweeney and Nicola Coughlan were in the news this week when they joined MPs on a march to Westminster, in favour of abortion rights in Northern Ireland. Jamie Lee O"Donnell has also been described as "an incredibly vocal abortion advocate" by the anti-choice mob – which means that she is more than alright with Hot Press!
The Group Business Editor at Independent News and Media, Dearbhail McDonald, will also be intervieewed by Ryan Tubridy. Dearbhail is appearing in advance of a documentary, scheduled to run next week, which discusses her decision – in her mid-thirties – to freeze her eggs. Also on hte show are Philip Hannigan, father of the late best-selling author Emma Hannigan; Carol Bryan, a victim of a cosmetic surgery procedure that went badly wrong; and Graham McCormack, a former mixed martial arts fighter who will talk about mental health issues he has experienced.

In addition to Jessie Buckley, there will be music from the ever-brilliant Mundy, and from the Irish Chamber Orchestra, who will be celebrating the launch of the new festival Tipp Classical. The Late Late Show runs on Friday March 1st, at 9.35pm.
