The film director died on Monday morning, after a battle with cancer.
Joel Schumacher, who directed Veronica Guerin (2003), Batman & Robin (1997), Batman Forever (1995), Falling Down (1993), The Lost Boys (1987) and St. Elmo's Fire (1985), died on Monday, June 22, after a year-long battle with cancer.
The New York filmmaker, who initially entered the industry as a costume designer, is credited with launching Colin Farrell, Matthew McConaughey and Kiefer Sutherland to superstardom.
Jim Carrey is among those who have paid tribute to Schumacher in the wake of his death – remembering him "as a friend" who "saw deeper things in me than most."

Grammy Award-winning artist Seal shared an acoustic performance of his song 'Kiss From A Rose', which he credits Schumacher with transforming into a major hit.
Minnie Driver remembered Schumacher as "the funniest, chicest, most hilarious director" she ever worked with.

Actor Ben Stiller also paid tribute to Schumacher, calling him a "true professional, and a magnetic presence."
