Former child star Lindsay Lohan has spoken out against the #MeToo movement, saying it makes women look "weak".

Initially, asked about #MeToo in an interview with The Times newspaper, Lohan seemed defensive.

"I don’t really have anything to say," she answered. "I can’t speak on something I didn’t live, right? Look, I am very supportive of women. Everyone goes through their own experiences in their own ways."

However, the actress then spoke about how some women have used the #MeToo movement as a means of getting attention. "You have these girls who come out, who don’t even know who they are, who do it for the attention. That is taking away from the fact that it happened," she stated.

She argued that if something "happens at that moment" then it should be brought up at the same time or reported immediately. "You make it a real thing by making it a police report," she suggested. "I’m going to really hate myself for saying this, but I think by women speaking against all these things, it makes them look weak when they are very strong women."

Last year, the Mean Girls star released a short video in which she defended Harvey Weinstein - who has been in the midst of a sexual assault scandal since he was named by a number of actresses. In the video, Lohan said that she had worked closely with Weinstein on numerous occasions and had never experienced any issues.

Lindsay Lohan is set to attempt another comeback later this year. She will appear in a reality TV show, Lohan Beach Club, in which she runs a Greek spa.

Born in New York and best known for her appearances in The Parent Trap (1998) at the age of twelve, and Mean Girls (2004), Lindsay Lohan is just 32 years of age.
