'Vegas' samples the 1952 classic 'Hound Dog' and will be included in the soundtrack of the Elvis biopic.
Today, Doja Cat has released a new single ‘Vegas’, taken from the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic.
'Vegas' is a modern remix of 'Hound Dog', originally sung by blues artist Big Mama Thornton in 1952. It was famously covered by Elvis Presley four years later – and now Doja Cat has decided to reinvent the song once more. The rapper weaves samples of Thornton’s vocals into her rendition, adding her own fiery bars and a cutting trap beat.
The song was first previewed during last month's Coachella set before being revealing as her contribution to the Elvis soundtrack. Country singer Kacey Musgraves will also appear on the soundtrack, contributing a cover of Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’.
Hitting cinemas on June 24, Austin Butler, Tom Hanks, Dacre Montgomery, Olivia DeJonge, and Maggie Gyllenhaal will help bring the story to the big screen. The film will follow the life and journey of The King of Rock & Roll. From tracing the origins of his iconic moves, meeting his agent and self-proclaimed 'villain' Colonel Tom Parker to life as a global superstar; it's set to capture every facet of the cultural icon.
