The upcoming film has received support from the Amy Winehouse Estate, with the feature is billed to hit cinemas on April 12 2024.
Mark Ronson, producer, collaborator and friend of Amy Winehouse has shared his two cents on the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black - named after her seminal second studio album which Ronson produced.
Ronson, who won the Grammy Award for Producer of the year for his work on Back to Black, spoke about the upcoming film at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday (January 14).
The producer and songwriter said of the film that he was "looking forward to seeing it".
Continuing he said: "The only thing I know about the film is I know Sam quite well, and I read the script and I feel what it did really nicely was… I was reminded of [Winehouse’s] humour and it really caught that well,” he said.
Speaking of Winehouse Ronson said: “I think she just had this whip-smart razor sense of humour which is one of her many gifts and they got that very nice in the film. I’m looking forward to seeing it.”

Ronson is not attached to the film, which is set to portray Winehouse’s early rise to stardom and the release of her sophomore LP Back To Black.
“Told from Amy’s perspective, the film is an unapologetic look at the woman behind the phenomenon and the relationship that inspired one of the most legendary albums of all time,” reads the logline.
Starring Maris Abela as the late London singer, the film is directed by Sam Taylor Johnson, who’s directorial credentials include the music biopic on John Lennon Nowhere Boy and racy international box office smash hit Fifty Shades of Grey.
Also attached to the project is Skins star Jack O’Connell who is cast to play Winehouse’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil. Also starring in the biopic are Eddie Marsan as the late star’s father, Mitch Winehouse, Juliet Cowan as her mother, Janis Winehouse-Collins and Lesley Manville, who plays Amy’s grandmother, Cynthia Winehouse.
Winehouse passed away in 2011 aged 27 from alcohol poisoning. While Back To Black is the first biopic to me created on the beloved Camden native, a number of documentaries on her troubled life and legacy have been made, including the Oscar-winning Amy, which was released in 2015.
In December, Winehouse’s parents said in a statement: “We are thrilled that StudioCanal, Focus Features and Monumental are making this movie celebrating our daughter Amy’s extraordinary music legacy and showcasing her talent in the way that it deserves.”
Ronson, who is not connected to the film, picked up the Best Song gong for his work on the Barbie track ‘I’m Just Ken’ at the Critics’ Choice Awards 2024.
