Robbie Robertson tribute concert will take place tonight (October 17) in California featuring a star studded line-up of performers.
Prior to the announcement of the concert film, Scorsese was an existing executive producer of the show, paying tribute to the pair's long history of collaboration. The Canadian musician scored a selection of Scorsese's films including The Irishman, Raging Bull and Killers of the Flower Moon.
Robertson sadly passed away aged 80 in late August of 2023 following a long battle with cancer, only one month before the release of Killers of the Flower Moon.
Speaking with Hot Press in 2011, Robertson discusses his close friendship with the director, “There was a period when Martin Scorsese and I were housemates, we had a place in Los Angeles and one in New York.”

The concert ‘Life is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson’, will feature performances from international artists, including Van Morrison, Noah Kahan, Mavis Staples, Eric Clapton and Elvis Costello. The musicians will play their renditions of a range of Robertsons music from various moments in his expansive career.
This is not the first concert film of Robertsons that Scorsese has taken on, the director captured the final concert the musician did with The Band in 1976, The Last Waltz.
The Band toured with Bob Dylan throughout the '60s, as captured by Scorsese in his 2005 documentary No Direction Home.
