The French graphic novel, described as "hardboiled noir", hailed from writer Alexis Nolent under the pen name Matz alongside artist Luc Jacamon.
David Fincher and Michael Fassbender are reportedly collaborating on The Killer, Fincher’s long-awaited assassin drama that may finally begin filming in 2021.
Andrew Kevin Walker, writer of Fincher's Se7en, has reunited with the filmmaker for Netflix's latest noir.
Fincher has been associated with Killer since at least 2007, when the project was set up at Paramount.
Brad Pitt, who worked with Fincher on several films including Se7en, was even rumoured to be the film's star.
The project, based on a French graphic novel, was picked up by streaming platform Netflix.
Despite there being six years between Fincher's 2014 thriller Gone Girl and 2020’s Mank, sources say The Killer may begin production as soon as September.

Mank has racked up six Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, heading into this weekend’s ceremony.
Fassbender is potentially starring as an assassin who begins to psychologically crack as he develops a conscience, even as his clients continue to demand his skills.
Fassbender was last seen in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and recently concluded work on Taika Waititi’s inspirational soccer flick, Next Goal Wins.
