Actress Michelle Williams has been announced as the newest cast member of FX mini-series, Fosse/Verdon .
She joins Oscar winner Sam Rockwell in the eight-episode series. The star has made quite a name for herself in the musical world after stunning audiences with her vocal chops and dance ability in the box-office hit The Greatest Showman .
Thomas Kail will direct the series pilot. Kail is well known for writing the smash-hit musical Dear Evan Hansen . Steven Levenson, director of Hamilton , wrote the pilot.
Created by Hamilton showman, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the series will explore the relationship between Broadway royalty Bob Fose and Gwen Verdon. The pair were known for being a musical power couple, collaborating on a number of different productions and musical projects.
In a joint statement, Miranda, Levenson and Kail said, "Bob Fosse ignited a revolution in American dance, theater, and film. But, in contrast to the well-worn myth of the visionary artist working in solitude, Fosse’s work would not have been possible without Gwen Verdon, the woman who helped to mold his style – and make him a star. We are honored to work with the incredible team at FX and Fox 21, and these two extraordinary actors, to tell the story of this remarkable couple, and the complicated, fascinating relationship between them".
Nicole, Fosse, the daughter of the couple released a statement sharing her delight at the news, "My mother and father have one of the greatest love stories ever known. They were extremely complex people with an indestructible bond, loyalty and trust that endured both fantasy and reality. Finally, we have a creative team with the talent and wisdom to tell the story."
