Irish actor Liam Neeson has secured his next role, starring as the lead in Neil Jordan's new thriller The Riker's Ghost.

It's sure to be an adventure. The Riker's Ghost will be about a convict who is set for release before his lawyer is kidnapped and he, as the only prisoner knowledgeable of how to escape, is forced to break a terrorist out of prison.

"This is a unique take on the prison escape. A bare knuckle ride from incarceration to freedom, by someone who just wants to finish his term," Jordan said of the project.

It's sure to be an exciting project. Neeson and Jordan have worked together before. Neil Jordan, an acclaimed Irish writer/director, directed the 2022 neo-noir crime thriller Marlowe, Neeson's 100th film as an actor.

Marlowe, a 1930's set film in Bay City about a detective searching for an heiress' ex-lover, premiered in September at the 70th San Sebastián International Film Festival. It was based off John Banville's novel, The Black-Eyed Blonde.

Jordan is also known for the 1992 film The Crying Game, a thriller about the internal conflict of an IRA provisional member after he builds a bond with a captured British soldier and how he lives honouring the soldier's final wishes protecting the soldier's girlfriend while hiding from his old unit.

The thriller's screenplay is co-written by Neil Jordan, Sean O'Keefe and Brian Rudnick. O'Keefe previously co-wrote the 2020 action action comedy Spenser Confidential. Rudnick co wrote the 2005 film Dungeons & Dragons: Wraith of the Dragon God and the 2012 film Dungeons & Dragons 3: The Book of Vile Darkness.

It won't just be Neeson and Jordan reuniting. Producing The Riker's Ghost is Alan Moloney and Steve Richards. Moloney produced Jordan's Marlowe and Richards produced several projects Neeson has worked on, including Non-Stop, Unknown, and Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House.

"I can't wait to explore this character with him," says Jordan.

Filming will begin this September.
