Netflix has acquired all rights to the untitled Leonard Bernstein film that Bradley Cooper will direct, star in and produce, Deadline reports. The script is a collaboration with Oscar-winning Spotlight writer Josh Singer.
The film isn't considered a traditional biopic, according to Deadline, as it focuses on the complex relationship between Bernstein and his wife, Chilean actress Felicia Montealegre. Bernstein was also an outspoken activist and is well-known for his orchestral pieces, such as the musical West Side Story and his Oscar-nominated film score for On the Waterfront.
Cooper is no stranger to musical drama films. He made his directorial debut in 2018 with Oscar-nominated film A Star is Born, featuring Lady Gaga. Much like the upcoming film, he also starred in and produced A Star is Born.

Netflix will secure the film a limited theatrical run to ensure award season eligibility, like it did with Oscar-nominated films Marriage Story and The Irishman.
