Based on Sam McAlister’s memoir SCOOPS, The BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews from Steven Seagal to Prince Andrews, the Netflix film will be coming out on 5 April 2024.
Netflix have shared the trailer for their new film, SCOOP, directed by Philip Martin and starring Gillian Anderson and Keeley Hawes, which tells the story of Prince Andrew’s infamous BBC Newsnight appearance. The film is an account of one of BBC’s most pivotal interviews, from the perspective of its resolute journalist, Sam McAlister.
Released in 2019, the Prince’s TV apparition dealt with his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, just a few months after the American financier’s suicide. It has since then been called a “car crash interview,” and is generally known as the Royal Family's most catastrophic media intervention of the past decade and the downfall of Prince Andrew. Its release prompted Virginia Gruff, who claimed to have been a victim of Epstein’s sex-trafficking, to press charges against the Duke of York. He eventually settled out of court in February 2022, a month after Queen Elizabeth II stripped him of his military titles and patronages.

One factor which made this interview so notorious was Prince Andrew’s response to the question: does he regret his friendship with Epstein? To which he responded: "No. The people that I met and the opportunities that I was given to learn, either by him or because of him, were actually very useful."
The inspired-by-real-life events Netflix film SCOOP is set to release on 5 April.
