Netflix to Stream TV Adaptation of Snowpiercer in Ireland
Netflix will stream upcoming sci-fi series Snowpiercer internationally.
Produced by American network TNT, the show is a futuristic sci-fi. Set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, the remnants of humanity inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe.
Addressing themes of class warfare and social injustice, the series will star Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly (Labyrinth, Requiem for a Dream), Tony winner Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), Alison Wright (Feud) and Annalise Basso (Captain Fantastic).
Based on French comic, Le Transperceneige, the story was previously adapted into the cult 2013 film Snowpiercer. Starring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton and John Hurt, the movie was a critical success though it received a poor release due to a dispute between director Bong Joon Ho and producer Harvey Weinstein over edits.
The property may be cursed as the show's original showrunner Josh Friedman and Doctor Strange's director Scott Derrickson - who shot the pilot - have disowned the series.
The 72-page Snowpiercer TV pilot script by @Josh_Friedman is the best I’ve ever read. The feature-length pilot I made from that script may be my best work.
The new show runner has a radically different vision for the show. I am forgoing my option to direct the extreme reshoots.

Graeme Manson (Orphan Black) is now the showrunner, serving as executive producer along with Derrickson and the original film's Bong Joon Ho and Oldboy's Park Chan-wook.
A release date has not been set.
