The film was originally set to debut in cinemas on May 30, but has since been postponed.
Mubi has announced that their new film Hot Milk will be released in cinemas across Ireland and the UK beginning on July 4.
The movie was directed by BAFTA-nominated writer Rebecca Lenkiewicz, known for her work on Ida, She Said and Disobedience. The film marks her directorial debut, and stars actors like Emma Mackey of Sex Education, Fiona Shaw of Killing Eve, Vicky Krieps of Phantom Thread and Vincent Perez of Boléro.
“I’ve been around film for decades, so I knew I was having a golden time,” said Lenkiewicz. “We had an incredible crew, who were working in the most insane conditions day and night, and they were just amazing. And a cast who could not be more enthused or warm, or brilliant.”
Hot Milk is an adaptation of Deborah Levy’s 2016 novel. The story follows Rose, played by Shaw, and her daughter Sofia, played by Mackey. Set in Spain, the pair travel to Almería to meet Gómez, played by Perez, who is a known healer aiming to cure Rose’s mysterious illness. Their relationship is tested when Sofia meets the free-spirited traveler Ingrid, played by Krieps, who challenges her to embrace her freedom.

“The extreme emotions in the film will hit people, maybe not others,” said Lenkiewicz. “It’s not a particularly feelgood film, but I want people to leave with their own emotions, feeling like they’ve been to another place to experience these strange people. It's an intergenerational film. It's about older people and younger people. And it's about sex. And it's about death. And it's about co-dependence and love. So I think people attach themselves to whatever they are feeling.”
