"WELCOME TO BARBIE LAND, did you bring your rollerblades?" wrote Nicola Coughlan to her social media.
Nicola Coughlan just announced her role in director Greta Gerwig's forthcoming film Barbie.
The Galway-born actor will play the role of Diplomat Barbie, donning a pink chiffon dress and a red hairdo.

This comes after the conclusion of her hit series Derry Girls in 2022 and amidst production of the third season of Bridgerton, which the actress is set to star in alongside Luke Newton.

The film follows the Margot Robbie's Barbie after her expulsion from Barbie Land for not being perfect enough. While not much information has been divulged about the film's plot, audience's know that the titular character will end up in the human world and interact with Will Ferrell's Mattel CEO character.
Coughlan's announcement followed a slew of other releases from the film, including a series of character posters and a full length trailer. The star studded cast unveiled their characters alongside Coughlan, publishing their character posters to social media.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are set to star in the film as iconic leading couple Barbie and Ken. Pop sensation Dua Lipa is set to play a mermaid Barbie, alongside Sex Education's Emma Mackey (Nobel prize winning barbie) and Ncuti Gatwa (guitar-playing ken).
Michael Cera will appear as Ken's friend Allan and The Crown’s Emerald Fennell will play Midge.

Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon and Alexandra Shipp are also set to play doll characters.

Human characters will played by Superstore's America Ferrera, comedian Will Ferrell, Stath Lets Flats star Jamie Demetriou and Sex Education’s Connor Swindells.
Barbie was co-written by Greta Gerwig and her husband, filmmaker Noah Baumbach, produced by Mattel Films, Heyday Films and LuckyChap Entertainment.
Barbie is set for theatrical release July 21st.
