Despite the financial success, Oppenheimer still falls behind its rival Barbie, which passed a whopping $1billion last weekend.
Christopher Nolan’s epic film Oppenheimer has now made over half a billion dollars at the global box office, making it the highest grossing WW2 move of all time.
The biopic stars Cork native Cillian Murphy, who portrays Robert J. Oppenheimer, an American physicist credited with being one of the most influential figures in the creation of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the conflict.
The movie’s total box office sales now sit at $552.9m, taking it beyond the previous leader in second world war films Dunkirk, which is at $527m.
Despite this financial success, Oppenheimer still falls short of Barbie, which passed a whopping $1billion last weekend.

“It’s a testament to the sharp writing and editing that it remains vaguely cohesive and utterly engaging for its three hour runtime, though the relentless pace can leave the emotional impact and resonance of all the action without room to breathe," she added.
