Internationally acclaimed and Oscar-nominated Irish language film An Cailín Ciúin has a successful premiere in New York
Wednesday night, An Cailín Ciúin's cast and crew celebrated the Irish-language film's successful New York premiere.
An Cailín Ciúin is about a quiet nine-year-old girl, Cáit, played by Catherine Clinch, sent to be taken in by distant relatives in 1981 Rin Gaeltacht, County Waterford by her neglectful parents.
As she lives with her foster parents, Eibhlín and Seán Kinsella, played by Carrie Crowley and Andrew Bennett, she experiences a loving home for the first time.
Funded by Screen Ireland, TG4 and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI), the film has done insanely well internationally. It was made as a part of the Cine4 funding scheme to promote and produce Irish-language films.
An Cailín Ciúin film was nominated for this year's BAFTAs in the Best Film Not in the English Language and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film was based on and adapted from the Claire Keegan novella Foster.
Shortlisted for this year's Oscars, it was nominated in the category of International Feature Film. An Cailín Ciúin is the first Irish-language film to be nominated in the category.

The Oscars will be presented on March 12th, 5PM PST, or March 13th at 12AM GMT.
Attending the New York premiere were writer-director Colm Bairéad, producer Cleona Ní Chrualaoí and stars Catherine Clinch, Carrie Crowley, and Andrew Bennett. The premiere was at NYC's Whitby Hotel.
Also attending An Cailín Ciúin's premiere were Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Peter Burke, and Irish Consul General Helena Nolan. Nolan is based in New York City.
