Mescal has reportedly been cast as Paul McCartney in Sony's movie series
Film director Ridley Scott recently hinted that Gladiator II star Paul Mescal is set to play Paul McCartney in Sony Pictures’ series of Beatles biopics, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes.
Speaking at a Gladiator II screening in Los Angeles, Scott was asked whether Mescal would lead his next project, The Dog Stars. He replied, “Maybe. Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go.”
While Sony remains unconfirmed on casting choices, reports suggest Mescal is the leading contender for the role of McCartney in the four-part series.

The films will individually profile each member of the Beatles: McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, and Starr. Mendes' project, sanctioned by the Beatles' label Apple Corps, is set to be a significant cinematic undertaking, with theatrical releases planned for all four biographical films.
Mescal, already an Emmy and Oscar nominee for Normal People and Aftersun, addressed the speculation in a recent interview, calling the opportunity “a dream come true” but refusing to confirm his involvement he continued saying, “It would be an incredible story to be attached to.”
Meanwhile, Ringo Starr recently hinted that Barry Keoghan will play him and has been learning drums for the role.
Sony chief Tom Rothman praised the project’s scope, saying, “There hasn’t been an enterprise like this before. And you can’t think about it in traditional releasing terms.”
