According to a press release, it will be Phoebe Bridgers’ only original new single of the year.
Phoebe Bridgers has shared the music video for ‘Sidelines’, featuring clips from the new HBO show Conversations With Friends interspersed with the indie singer recording the original track.
The song, which Bridgers co-wrote with her bandmate and collaborator Marshall Vore and Ruby Rain Henley, is taken from the soundtrack to Hulu’s TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s debut novel.
When asked about how ‘Sidelines’ came about at Coachella, Bridgers explained to KROQ: “[Marshall Vore] had this like love song idea… he sent it to me right in the beginning of the pandemic. And I was like, ‘This is insane’.”
She continued: “I was so obsessed with it, I was playing it all the time in the house. And when the show asked me to make something, I was like, ‘But I don’t have anything that fits’. And Marshall was like, ‘What about that ‘Sidelines’ one?’”
The California native recently pledged to donate part of her North American tour income towards reproductive healthcare charities in light of the attack on Roe v Wade.

The Punisher star shared her own experience of abortion, saying: “I had an abortion in October of last year while I was on tour. I went to planned parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access.”
