After filming for the HBO spin-off series of The Batman started last month, Colin Farrell has been seen dressed as the series' star, DC villain the Penguin, in New York
Last year, Irish actor Colin Farrell played the Penguin in Matt Reeves' The Batman. Soon after, a spin-off series inspired by the box office success was confirmed, focused on Farrell's Gotham gangster role.
The 8-episode series is set to premiere in 2024. It will delve into the Penguin's rise to power within the crime-filled city of Gotham and its' corrupt underworld starting a week after the events of The Batman.
While Matt Reeves won't be directing the project, he and Farrell will both be executive producers for the HBO Max limited series. The episodes are written by Lauren LeFranc, the first three of which are being directed by Westworld director Craig Zobel.
Filming started just this February, so it shouldn't be a surprise that the Oscar nominated actor was seen in New York adorned with the make-up and prosthetics needed to construct Oswald Cobblepot's iconic mug. In a departure from his appearance in The Batman, however, he wears a purple blazer instead of a full tux.

Confirmed to be joining Farrell on-screen is How I Met Your Mother actress Cristin Milioti, set to play Sofia Falcone. In the comics, Sofia is the daughter of Carmine Falcone, the previous crime boss of Gotham and one of Batman's adversaries in the film.
Back before the movie premiered, the 46-year-old actor had expressed remorse at only exploring the "tip of the iceberg" of the character. When the spin-off was announced, Farrell expressed his excitement at exploring the Oswald Cobblepot further.
“I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. It will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”
Fans of the Batman franchise should also note that The Batman isn't through with the big screens either. The Batman II was confirmed only a couple days ago, although the series will release before the sequel does. Production begins this November.

Farrell is also due at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles this upcoming weekend. He's been shortlisted in the Best Actor category alongside Aftersun star Paul Mescal for his work on the Irish black comedy The Banshees of Inisherin.
